We Shine Forth is all about creative outlets for a balanced life. Yoga has been a main part of my life since I was a teenager and is my main creative outlet. I have been teaching for many years now and have taught in a variety of settings. I’ve taught in college, graduate school, at gyms, in studios, at the VA, schools and even on a ship. I’ve taught kids up to seniors with a range of backgrounds and abilities. Yoga is absolutely an important part of my life and I love sharing my practice with others.
A year ago I started the We Shine Forth Yoga Project which offers opportunities for youth and underserved populations in Western North Carolina to experience the benefits and impact of yoga. Programming includes yoga-based exercises, mindfulness practices, community and self-confidence building and relaxation techniques. Programming is free for schools, community organizations and non-profits.
I based the projects model off of other programs throughout the country and abroad that focus on getting yoga to those that might not otherwise have access. Some of the programs include, Yoga Behind Bars, Inpowered, New Leaf Yoga Foundation and Street Yoga. My training includes 200hr Yoga Alliance certification, NESTA Yoga Teaching certification, Trauma Informed Yoga training with Hala Khouri, Kids Yoga teaching certification and a yoga leadership training with Inpowered.
Since we started a year ago we have taught in schools, the VA and foster camps. We Shine Forth Yoga project is just one of the many programs around the world doing this kind of work and I encourage you to learn more about volunteering, donating and sharing with a similar organization near you!
